Epoxy resins are a class of thermosetting polymers with favorable mechanical, physical and chemical properties that make them suitable for a broad range of applications. Their chemical structures include two epoxide functional groups, which can bind to many organic compounds.

Curing results from reacting the linear epoxy resin with suitable hardener to form three-dimensional cross-linked thermoset structures. Variation in composition of epoxy resin and its hardener can offer a wide range of properties.

Epoxy resins are known for their very good electrical and chemical resistance, good strength and toughness, excellent adhesive strength and high heat resistance. The applications for epoxy-based materials are extensive and include coatings, floor coverings, adhesives, electrical insulators, and composite materials.
